May 16 - “Detour detour”

We left Waco for home around ten. We decided to take a leisurely drive in a bit of a different direction than usual - a detour of sorts. It would eventually put us back on the same road about at our Buc-ees stop. So in Cameron, Texas, about 45 minutes or so from Waco, we stopped for a Dairy Queen burger. Pleasant place. Really good burger. We even saved enough room for a Mini-Blizzard.

We were in the car enjoying those desserts (Chris was cold inside), when she got a phone call from Christi. She said she had just found something that she thought we might need. Now what could we possibly have left that would warrant a phone call that would cause us to even remotely consider turning around?  Welllll … we forgot to pack … Chris’ heart monitor receiver. Yep. Detour detour. We were on our way back. Kinda gotta have that one.

Josh left work and went by the house to pick it up and meet us on the way. As it happened, we were almost back to Waco before we connected. But the handoff was made, and we were back on the road. Instead of resuming our off-the-beaten-track approach to travel, we hit the most efficient - and hence quickest- track. It did mean we ran into some pretty bad thunderstorms, but all was well.

We had a huge surprise awaiting us when we got home. Our fridge was stocked with some crab salad (my favorite) and some chicken salad for Chris. There were even bananas hanging from the banana perch. And on the counter? Some flowers and a great card from my much-older, and greatly-loved sister Sam. That’s one sweet lady.

Ephesians‬ ‭1‬‬:‭17‬ ‭says, I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Father, thank you for safety on our trip home  through those storms. And thanks again for Josh’s big accomplishment. Please be with Chris today at her cancer doc follow-up appointment. Amen.
