First Church day for DOCTOR Josh Vaughan. He was introduced as that by the children’s minister and received quite the ovation.
After church and a quick lunch of leftovers, we all went to the local high school to hear Caleb’s very first voice recital. He was the youngest one in the group of eighteen that sang solos. Of course he did fabulously. They all did really well. Even a lady at the end who bellered out a song in some foreign opera language. And when she came to the high notes … hey, I’m not saying she missed them, but when it came time for them, I’m pretty sure she just screamed at the top of her lungs and assumed we would eat it up because it was so loud. Nope. It was just … loud. Not Caleb. He really did do a great job. We were grandparent-level proud of him, and you can’t get any higher than that.
On the way home the boys “took Christi to Sonic for a Mother’s Day happy hour slushy.” She paid, of course. Back home they presented her with the awesome gifts they each selected. A Virgin of Guadalupe votive candle. A water bottle. Some pink flaming emblazoned flip flops. A tiny trash can for the cup holder in the car. A pineapple night light. A coffee mug. A bag of lavender potpourri. Along tall can of Dr Pepper. You know. All those completely appropriate gifts for Mom. Christi is much-loved. Oh, and the family presented Chris a basket of girly products. I have no idea what all that was.
Before we retired to watch another movie (MamaMia), I did something I haven’t done in years. I joined the boys outside for a rousing game of wiggle ball. Sort of. Actually, we made up our own rules, and there were no clear teams. We just played. That was some fun.
Proverbs 31:25-26 says, She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. 26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
Father, thanks for that wiggle ball game. I really enjoyed it. Please be with us on our journey home. Keep me awake and Chris in less pain. Amen.
