January 15 - “The Inimitable Cailyn”

We did church on line yesterday. Why? Because we hit the road again, albeit briefly, and headed into Texas. Actually, this one wasn’t a road trip, but we were going to partake of an unusual event surrounding Cailyn’s birthday. Actually, Chris volunteered us to get to the party early to help with setup. Oh, and not to mention the fact that Chris was bringing three boxes full of china for them to use.

And why china?  Well, because Cailyn invited eight or nine of her school friends over to join her in a simply fabulous Garden Tea. But this was no ordinary English tea with Earl Grey and scones. Not for The Inimitable Cailyn.

For her there were ham and cheese and turkey and cheese sandwiches, chicken salad filled croissants. An array of vegetables and miscellaneous berries and grapes. And I can’t forget cheesecake and cupcakes for dessert.

Impressive group of girls. They all dressed up in their finest dresses and curled their hair. They used the fine china like they had been doing it all their lives. And then they really surprised me. Each one washed her own plate. Wow.

After lunch April and Nathan got them started on a series of crafts. And of course there was the ever-present photographer, Chris. They painted masterpieces on tiny little canvases. I noticed everything from abstract impressionism to abject realism. Flowers were popular. One was a sunset. They also created some beautiful pictures on glasses as well. The last thing they did involved painting on long white candles with different colors of wax. Fascinating.

Next event involved a road trip to Helen’s Garden in League City. No sense wasting all that time the girls put into looking beeyooteefied. How about a photo shoot? Hence Cailyn’s earlier request that Nana bring her good camera. It was pretty cold, especially for the girls in their prettiest dresses. They handled it great, though. Photographer Nana got some good pics. So did I (on my phone).

I found out as we were leaving that all the girls were spending the night, so that party is just getting started. That was enough for me and Nana, though. We came home.

Isaiah‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭ says, Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.

Father, thank you for Cailyn and for the friendships she has made. Amen.
