Chris took off on her walk first thing. And when she got back, she followed up with watering the back yard as well as all her plants. That woman has an amazing green thumb.
I stayed … well, inside … where it was cool.
After watching the Astros game in the afternoon, we made our way out to Jamaica Beach. It was time once again for the Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fund raiser. The event included a dance as well as a silent auction and barbecue plates for sale.
The Jamaica Beach City Park was packed when we arrived, and more were streaming in the whole time we were there. The band was blaring some country music. The Lion’sClub was serving barbecued chicken, brisket and sausage, as well as potatoes and baked beans. They even handed us a slice of cold watermelon for dessert. The silent auction featured some amazing items, even an inflatable kayak. Of course the best part was seeing all the folks we knew from the neighborhood. And for me, the best part of that part was when I got to dance with little Roman Anderson.
He was bobbing his head in time to the music. I joined him, doing the same thing. He grinned really big at that, so I may or may not have taken the dancing to a whole other level. He thought what he was seeing was the funniest thing since the Astros won 14-0 (Mom and Dad are big Astros fans). The more he giggled, the more animated the dance may have become. Can’t speak for anyone else, but the two of us had a great time.
The program highlight, other than the money raised for the fire department of course, came when a little ten-year-old girl with cancer arrived with a full-blown police entourage escort. She was dressed in a uniform of some kind that matched a few of the others. Her dream has always been to be a game warden - hence the uniform. So the local game wardens swore her in right there in front of the big crowd of people. Of course the people cheered and applauded to congratulate the young lady. It was a pretty sweet moment.
John 1:29 says, The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
Father, thanks for all the folks who came last night. Please touch that young girl with one of your healing hugs. Bless Lauren for her hard work on the event. And help Roman to keep on growing and laughing and … dancing! Amen.
