I know we did the birthday bash the day before, but yesterday was, after all, Nathan’s actual birthday. That’s why when he was a kid, he thought the whole country was celebrating his birthday. So close to Independence Day and all …
We
were passed on the way to church by a car that looked surprisingly familiar.
Yep. It was the new pastor of Seaside Church and his family. They had had to
turn around and go back home for something, so they were running late. We all
made it in plenty of time though. Thankfully, no one started without us. Kel
preached from Isaiah. He’s doing a series on the Kingdom of God. Good stuff
there. He was still a little gunky in
the head from his bout with illness last week, but once he got started, the Holy
spirit took over and between the two of them, they did a great job.
After
church we went with Dennis and Sam for lunch. Our destination was Golden
Corral. We haven’t been there in a really long time. Best part about it, as
usual, is the preponderance of fried shrimp. Oh, I added plenty of black-eyed
peas and Lima beans to the mix, but fried shrimp? Always the star of the show.
Back
home, we watched the Astros win … again. Then we watched one of those
Wizarding world movies. Pure, non-thinking drivel (the movie, not the Astros).
Wonderful. Later we sat out on the backyard swing enjoying the cool evening
breeze.
After
sharing an apple and watching a family movie called Time Bandits (Hey, one of the
characters was a guy named Sean Connery.
Remember him? AKA James Bond?),
we made our way to bed. Well, those movie doubleheaders make one tired, right? Day before Independence Day? Check.
John 6:35 says, “Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never
be thirsty.’”
Father,
please keep Kel in your care and grant him full healing. Amen.
