Well, we left our deck in the capable hands of our work crew. Why? Friday Night Lights, of course. We headed out to Waco to watch Caleb and his squad in their first round playoff game. Might be the only one we get to see, so it’s worth the drive. We even made our 10 a.m. departure goal.
We experienced an unusual phenomenon on the trip up. We drove for a time behind a pickup truck. Not strange in and of itself, but it had strapped down in the bed some rarely seen passenger accommodations. A casket. Couldn’t tell if it was occupied or not though. Just as well, I suppose.
I had the best barbecue beef sandwich I have had in a very long time for lunch. Here’s a clue as to where we were: “Fresh brisket on the Bo-ard!”
The football game was a massive victory for the good guys. Believe it or not, the final score was 62-0. Even better, Caleb scored a touchdown. On defense. He recovered a fumble in the end zone. Atta boy, Caleb.
The after-game meal at Chic-fil-A meant a pretty late night. I think we finally got to bed around one. Up again at six, though. We are headed back home to check on a family with a mom entering her last stage of life.
2 Timothy 4:7 says, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Father, be with Joanna as she nears her start to a new life. Be with Irv and Jim and the rest of the family. Grant them your peace. Amen.
