November 15 - “Cuero”

After a really short night, we were awakened to some jarring news. Lee, the older of Chris’ two brothers, had a massive heart attack. Sadly, he didn’t make it.

We immediately threw together a change of clothes. I got the car filled up with gas while Chris finished packing. And in a remarkable display of speed and determination, we headed for Cuero, Texas.

By the time we reached the hospital, the funeral home had already picked up the body. We located Mark and met him at the local Dairy Queen.

After a quick burger we made our way to the funeral home (East to find. It’s the only one in Cuero). Chris had hoped to see the body one last time, but it had already been sent for the required autopsy.

The funeral home guy began his paperwork, but until Chris’ sister arrives from Mexico, the decisions can’t be considered final. So we have to return on Tuesday morning for that meeting. We did go over to Chris’ other brother Mark’s house for a while. It was good just chatting with him. He was closer to Lee than any of the other family. I think he’ll be fine, though.

Isaiah‬ ‭25‬:‭1‬ says, Yahweh, You are my God; I will exalt You. I will praise Your name, for You have accomplished wonders, plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.

Father, be with Mark over the next few days. And give Cheryl a safe flight. Amen.
