We left town early. Really early this time. It was shortly after 6:30 in the a.m. when we pulled out. And yes, by “we” I include a pretty much wide-awake Chris. Though she is by no means a morning person, she accepted the task at hand and set to driving.
As usual, I dozed off and on and read a few chapters of my latest book. When we stopped at Buc-ees for a bathroom break, my back really gripped and swirled and zinged and embarked upon all manner of aching. Chris convinced me to take some Tylenol, though, and I re-entered my travel mode of dozing amid reading (often the same page, over and over).
Luke’s basketball game was first on the docket. It was a real thriller, too. The good guys ended up winning 22-20. Luke didn’t score as much as he usually does, but he had the assist on every other point that he didn’t score. It was fun to see those little guys get excited when their shot actually went in. Way to go, Luke.
We went by the house to drop off our stuff and grab a bite to eat. Then it was on to the birthday party. AnnaGrace engineered a very cute theme of pet adoption. The kids could adopt and have groomed little stuffed animals. They were also encouraged to bring gifts for the animal rescue center. Pretty impressive for a seven-year-old.
1 John 3:18 says, Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Father, thanks for our safe trip in time to catch the game and the party. Be with the boys today at their recital. Amen.
