Pretty early morning again. We headed into Texas for Noa’s adenoid removal surgery. We had a gift for her. Stuffed purple elephant and a supply of beads and the equipment for making bracelets. She seemed excited about it.
We stayed in the waiting room when they took her back. Mom and dad were the only ones allowed in. As a result we chatted with some of our fellow “waiters.” One lady was particularly ready to talk. Her husband was having hip replacement surgery. She was particularly grateful when I prayed for him. Another waiting room denizen was a lady born and raised in Galveston, so we had some things in common to talk about as well. Even several others who were just there for a few minutes joined in our chat circle. A true example of the new old adage: Adversity breeds comradery.
We had to leave before Noa ever went into surgery. Chris had a doctor appointment to get to, and the plumber was supposed to come in the afternoon sometime. To jump ahead, though, Noa came through like a champ. When she woke up she was ready to go home. Things to do. People to see.
On our way home Chris saw an unusual sight (I was checking baseball scores on my phone, so I missed the action). A police officer apparently had someone pulled over, but it was hard to see at first what kind of car it was … until we got close. Our aforementioned cop had a golf cart pulled over … just off the fast lane of the freeway! And it gets better. Nobody was in the golf cart. Strange things are afoot between Houston and Galveston, ladies and gentlemen.
Sam came over to do a video call with her doc’s office. Chris provided a second set of ears for her.
And right in the middle of the call, who should show up, but the plumber. He was actually really kind. He agreed to wait until the call was over to turn on his snake machine. Good thing he waited.
When he did turn it on, it stayed on for a long time. This particular guy was nothing if not thorough. He got the old cast iron pipe reamed out good, though. Water is now free flowing. The company did something really nice for us.m, too. They comped two of the basic charges, “because you’re a good customer.” Thank you very much!
Romans 12:2 says, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Father, please help Noa get through her recovery as pain-free as possible. Amen.
