September 10 - “Pine Island”

Early morning for us’ns this fine Saturday. We had to leave the house by 7:30 to get to a funeral in a place called Pine Island, Texas. Not on the coast, though. The community is nowhere near the coast. Or near any body of water, for that matter. The name came from a cluster of pine trees in the area that, I suppose, looked like an island. It is actually somewhere on the road towards Waco near Hempstead.

The young man who died was the son of some long-time friends who had actually been in the youth group of the first church I was ever a youth pastor. Special place in my heart for that family.

It was great to see several folks we haven’t seen in years. After the service, the church provided lunch for everyone who wanted to stay. We sat with Bo and Nancy, some very dear friends from our early days as youth pastor at Langwood Baptist Church in Houston.

Back home we pretty much just crashed for the afternoon. Worked a little on the new jigsaw puzzle. We did walk down the street to an estate sale. We weren’t really looking for anything. Just wanted to touch base with the daughter of the lady who died. Very sweet young lady. She gave Chris a glittery keychain with her name on it to say thanks for being there for her mom.

Revelation‬ ‭4‬:‭11‬ ‭says, You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.

Father, please be with H.C. and Joni and their families as they deal with John’s death. Thank you for the encouraging message by the pastor. Amen.
