January 1 – “Happy New Year 2022”

Well, Happy New Year.  We were awakened at exactly 12:01 a.m. on New Year’s Day to a flurry of fireworks bringing in the new annum – ano (sorry, I don’t know how to add a tilde over the n) – number at the end of the date.  I gave Chris a quick kiss and we both rolled over and went back to sleep.  Great way to bring in the new year.  Oh, no.  We didn’t stay up to welcome it in.  Chris was fast asleep on the couch before Georgia had their football game well in hand.  And that only took a minute or two into the game.  We finally adjourned to the proper sleeping quarters around 9:30 or so.  But I did sleep in until almost 6:30.  Chris came into the office about an hour later.

But back to the New Year’s Eve report …

We rang out the old year with a bevy of critters at our house again.  No, not birds or even dogs.  I mean the good kind of critters – grandkids.  Josh and Christi stuck around until after lunch, so Kel and Christina brought their guys over as well.  And when we have that many youngsters in one place at one time, it can only mean one thing … pizza.

Kel and I ran over to Little Caesar’s and picked up a few.  Well, okay, yes, we drove.  They were incredibly busy, so we had to wait a bit.  The lady in front of us was ordering fifteen or twenty “for the courthouse.”  I supposed it was for jurors or something.  She wasn’t happy.  Apparently, she had called in and had been told they would be ready in fifteen minutes.  Nope.  So she wanted a discount or something to make up for her lost time.  They finally gave her some breadsticks, and that seemed to appease her.

Before they left, we joined Josh and Christi and AnnaGrace in a walk around the block with our newest granddog MaddieBelle.  We went about half a mile.  Just over AnnaGrace’s limit, to be sure.  She was a trooper, though.  Didn’t really complain until we were just around the corner from the house.  And when we walked up to it, she exclaimed that we had somehow walked in a big circle.  Yep.  No backtracking to get home here.

Once everyone left for their respective homes, Chris and I did watch a little bit of football.  Alabama pretty much had their way with Cincinnati.  We also watched some Harry Potter.  Well, dozed through some Harry potter, to be more accurate.  And then the Georgia game was on (Sorry, Michigan), and we are back to where we began, with Chris asleep on the couch …

Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  See, I am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?  I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Father, thank you for giving us another new year to live in, discover in, and love in.  Amen.
