December 2– “The missing Bug Guy”

We both got up a little early yesterday.  We had to make a trip out to the church to meet the Bug Guy.  He was scheduled to spray for roaches and deal with mice that have encroached inside since the controlled burn at the nearby State Park.  He didn’t show up.  I called the office and they informed me that he had told them he waited 30 minutes and no one came.  Well, that was a direct misstatement.  The appointment was for between 8 and 8:30.  We arrived at 7:50.  I called their office at 8:45.  Nope.  Doesn’t really match the window, does it?  I decided to give them another chance for this morning, but this is the second time they have missed an appointment.  Looking for strike three …

Meanwhile, we did get a little work done.  I emptied out the closet in the worship center that holds the Bethlehem Street Market supplies.  The plan was to make some room in there so we could in turn empty out the main office of all the accumulated stuff in there.  And that would allow for filling the office back up with excess chairs and the like for the actual execution of Bethlehem Street Market next week.  I uncovered a lot of trash in that closet, so we’ll have to do a trash run over to the pickup spot today.

I got to make a WalMart run by myself.  Felt like a kid who just got his license being asked to go pick up some toilet paper.  Hey, some things are just more important than others, and toilet paper?  Gotta have it.

We also spent an hour or so hanging our outside Christmas lights and strapping the big candy canes to the deck steps.  That was an interesting task.  Chris has been trying hard to follow orders not to bend or lift.  And if you haven’t really noticed, or if you don’t do much decorating, decorating involves a lot of bending and lifting.  I think the hardest thing for her, though, is the two-week ban on long distance walking.  We have been struggling with a definition for that.  What exactly constitutes long distance?  She is determined today to head the opposite direction and add another house distance to her “short walk.”  It has been a week since the procedure, so I guess a little extension won’t hurt anything …

Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Father, thank you for the spirit that engulfs people to decorate.  Makes me feel good.  Amen.
