We took our car to the shop yesterday to get an oil change and check-up before our trip to Waco this weekend. On the way home in the truck, the passenger side window fell open. Just fell. It is on one of those electric motor-operated tracks, and when we hit a bump … off the track it came. Chris managed to grab it before it disappeared into the oblivion of the door. We did our best to pull it back into place after we got home, but to no avail. We finally just decided to switch places when we picked up the car and see what Dennis the mechanic could determine. His initial diagnosis was not a good one. The track itself appeared to be rusted through. Replacement was around $425. Ouch. Not a great time for that kind of expense. I asked him if there was a way to just nail it shut. He said he would give it a try. We are waiting to hear the results of that effort.
On
the way home from the shop we did see an interesting Galveston sight. An older guy was jogging along the side of
the road. No, that’s not the weird
thing. Actually, he was jogging … with a
small, Freddy-sized dog perched on his shoulders. No backpack or anything. Just standing there, enjoying the ride and the
view. Not a care in the world, except
maybe hanging on for dear life.
Later
in the day a fire department call went out for our next door neighbor’s
house. I went out to pray for the fire
fighters and our neighbor. Always good
to chat with the guys after EMS took our neighbor in for treatment of a possible
respiratory virus (apparently not Covid).
Even had a chance to chat with our neighbor’s mother, who called me over
to say hello after the engine left. I
assured her we would continue praying for her and her daughter. She asked me to give “Christy” a hug from
her.
We
did make a quick trip over to WalMart. I
needed a few more things for the party tonight.
Chris needed some ingredients to make her famous cheeseball for the party
as well. Gee, with Nathan not living in
town any more, I might have to eat all the leftovers this year …
Philippians
4:4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always.
I will say it again: Rejoice!”
Father,
please be with our neighbor as she recovers from the virus. And watch over her mother and kids as well. Thank you for our fire fighters. Bless them for their professional, yet caring,
approach to responding to calls like the one yesterday. Amen.
