November 9 – “On the Christina front”

We got in a two-miler to start the day.

Chris finished the big lighthouse jigsaw puzzle.  We pondered which ones we have yet to go see.  Answer?  Most of them.  I think we should stick to national parks for the time being.  She also worked a little on the quilt.  She is almost done with that.

I worked on a vows renewal service.  That one is coming up on Thursday night.  The plan is for it to happen after home group.  If we have home group.  That brings up the other thing that has been consuming our days.  Seems like we have been on pins and needles for several days now.  Especially yesterday.  We were waiting for the promised call from the cardiologist’s office to tell us when the heart cath will take place.  Kind of hard to plan when you know that is somewhere on the table, but you haven’t even been shown to your seat yet.  The nurse was supposed to call yesterday with those details.  She didn’t.  Still we wait.

April had her big interview yesterday.  Some kind of management job.  Big deal for her.  She felt like it went well, so now we get to wait and see on that one as well.

On the Christina front.  Boy, has that ever been a roller coaster ride.  And yesterday was no exception.  She got word that as soon as physical therapy made their evaluation on how much oxygen she needed to be sent home with, and as soon as that tank was delivered, then she would be free to go home.  Well, that set in motion a flurry of activity, both with her nurse and with her husband.  The nurse flew into action to get her ready for departure on that end.  Kel called us and arranged for us to switch cars at the hospital so we could pick up the kids from their Co-op and get them home.  All was set.  The two youngest were kept in the dark about the impending arrival of Mom, just in case.

As it turned out, that was probably for the best.  Although the patient was ready in record time, no oxygen arrived.  Finally, they got word that there had been a mix-up of some kind.  The tank was coming, but it had been delayed.  So they waited.

It took a while – Jachin brought home some frozen pizzas for supper, and all settled in for some America’s Funniest Home Videos – but finally … it happened.  A faint knock at the door.  I went over and quietly opened it.  And there stood BOTH Mom and Dad.  Dad was filming the whole thing.  Noa whipped her head around, open-mouthed in surprise.  Ezra was cool about the whole thing, as he made his way over for a hug – or two, or three.  The others all rushed to greet her as well, but they seemed a bit - cautious.  I’m pretty sure they were afraid to be too rambunctious.  After all, they knew Mom had been really sick, and she had that oxygen tank beside her.  But as they backed away, their little dog came yipping up, tail wagging in delight, leaping up on Christina’s legs in total, unreserved joy, showing on the outside what we all were feeling on the inside.  Yep.  Mom is home.  For the first time in a month.

Ephesians 3:20-21 says, “Now to him who is able to do all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!”

Father, thank you for getting Christina and her family through this hospital thing.  Please stick around.  The rehab has only just begun.  Amen.
