November 10 – “Waiting for the Call … again”

Yesterday morning (that would be Tuesday) we were still waiting for the Monday phone call from the Cath lab telling us when Chris’ procedure would be (That would be her third heart cath for possibly more stents).  I was surprised at how frustrated I felt about the whole thing.  I couldn’t seem to get enthused about doing anything else until that particular box had been checked.  Chris even suggested I make what she endearingly refers to as a “Charlie Visit.”  By that she means going to one of the fire stations.  “Charlie” is the name of Galveston’s fire chief.  Cute, huh?  Umm.  The reference I mean, not Chief Charlie.  But I just wanted to “be here” when the call did come, so I could “be there” for Chris.  We both have in the back of our minds questions like, “How many stents can one person have?” And the one that ultimately arises, “At what point will they start talking open heart surgery?”

The call did finally come, sometime in the afternoon.  The date is set.  And an odd one it is.  The first available opening her doc has to do the procedure is not until November 23rd.  Yep.  Two days before Thanksgiving.  She accepted it, of course, but we had hoped it would be sooner than that.  Not just because of the holidays.  The doc even said when he called that he wanted it done sooner rather than later.  Oh, well.  We will keep on going like we have been.  If her symptoms get any worse, she is to go straight to the emergency room.  That will take some teeth-pulling style convincing should it ever come up.  But I know I have some back-up.  Nathan and April have proven quite … forceful in those situations.  In the meantime, I’ll just do a little more pacing … and trusting.  Check these “Therefore’s” I found …

Hebrews 4:1, 14 says, “Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it … Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.”

Father, thank you for a final resolving of a date for this next “thing” on the Chris list.  Give us patience as we wait for it to get here.  Amen.
