We had two very early morning visitors yesterday. Cailyn and her puppy Marley came over to help Chris make some pies for Thanksgiving. Well, Cailyn was to help with the pies. Marley came to keep Freddy occupied. We are having our big family celebration today, since Josh and his family got here last night and Kel’s family and Nathan and April are coming in tomorrow.
I
left the house pretty early myself. On
Thanksgiving Day I generally make the rounds of all the fire stations. The goal is to pray with the guys and drop
off a bag of the turkey that we fried on Monday. They all seem to appreciate the gesture, and
it’s always good for me to hang out with the fire department family.
Meanwhile,
Cailyn and Chris stayed quite busy. They
put together at least four pies. Then
they added some little pumpkin pie-let, tart-looking thingies. And they did the cornbread for Chris’ famous
cornbread dressing to go with the turkey.
That was all in the morning. After
a quick lunch, they went back at it and baked six dozen chocolate chip
cookies. Needless to say, Chris was
pretty tired after all that exertion. Hey,
it takes a lot out of you to be the supervisor.
She was able to get a bit of a nap in, though. And I may or may not have dozed on the couch –
just for a few seconds to rest my eyes. Hey,
we needed it. Neither of us has had much
sleep in the last few days.
Oh,
and I failed to mention the exploits occurring much closer to the ground. Freddy and Marley are great friends, so they
passed the time racing around the house and the back yard. Ah, the energy of youth …
James
1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father
of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
Father,
thank you for all the help that Cailyn gave Chris yesterday. Be with Chris today as she hospitality-izes with
the houseful of people that will be here.
Amen.
