We started on our walk yesterday. Well, we talked about starting on our walk. Made it as far as the front door. That’s when Chris said, “It’s raining,” followed closely by, “I really don’t want to walk in the rain.” Needless to say … the walking trip was indefinitely postponed. I noticed when I woke up that the weather app on my phone predicts rain today, too. No such prediction for yesterday. Does that mean we will probably see no rain today? I’m confused … again.
Chris
was in a zone that I can only compare to, well, nesting before having a baby. She organized the pantry. She emptied off all the kitchen counters and
scrubbed them down. She detailed all the
rest of her plans as well, which was, in a word or two, rather frightening. Of course, there was the cleaning aspect of
it all. I’m afraid we might even be
heading into a “Granny Clean” mode in the next few days. She is determined to finish the quilt she has
been working on. That one is almost
done, thank goodness. Once that is finished,
she is ready to stow away all her sewing stuff in preparation for needing the
counter space for Thanksgiving traffic.
And in between all that extra activity, she washed several loads of
clothes. And all that was done with
Freddy sticking close to her side, as if she knew something was up. Oh, and add in there somewhere the time she
spent on the phone, catching up with Christina.
Phew. Makes me tired just to recount
it all for you.
With
our earlier exercise opportunity squashed by the weather, we decided this would
be the perfect opportunity to get in some indoor walking. Of course, that meant
… a trip to WalMart. In the spirit of
her nesting, Chris was already all prepared to get her Thanksgiving shopping
list knocked out. We even picked up six
turkeys for frying.
So
what is the deal? Honestly, I think it
is a kind of nesting. She is determined
to get everything ready for Thanksgiving before she goes in for her heart cath
two days before the big day. That, I
suppose, is kind of like preparing for a baby … without the baby …
Philippians
4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer
and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Father,
help us to get done all that Chris wants to have accomplished before that cath
date. And we could both use some of that
peace. Amen.
