November 5 – “Winter Thumbs”

Yesterday it was … cold.  For Galveston … really cold.  I think it was all the way down to 53 degrees.  That’s serious winter weather here.  That’s get your big coat out of storage weather.  Oh, and my Winter Thumbs have officially arrived to welcome the weather.  Arthritis in the thumb joints.  Not fun.

In the morning we made our way through what became somewhat of a maze.  The city has closed several key throughways because of expected traffic from biker rally weekend.  That’s motorcycles, by the way.  In years past there have been literally thousands of motorcycles descending upon the Island.  Needless to say, we used the one-way streets as much as possible.  Strangely enough, I didn’t see a single motorcycle on the way.  And I saw a total of only six on the way home.

Oh, I never mentioned where we were going.  Chris had another appointment at UTMB.  This time it was to check the newly implanted locator chip (A.K.A. loop recording device).  They were just making sure it worked as planned and that her incision was healing nicely.  All was well on both fronts.  Next appointment is in a year.

The best part this trip was seeing Nurse Teri.  She’s a Jamaica Beach-er who we have known for a very long time.  It was great chatting and catching up with her.  She shared horror stories with Chris about her own heart trials.  Actually, I’m not at all sure what they were talking about.  They were using all sorts of nurse-y, medical-ish words.  But Teri looked great.  It was good to see her.

On the way home we stopped at Randall’s to pick up a prescription and get some gas in the car.  Just covering our bases for our most recent trek to LaMarque.  This time we held down the fort on the home front so Kel could go to the hospital with Josiah.  And speaking of the hospital, Christina tried going without oxygen at all.  Did pretty well, too.  Now she has to work on exerting herself (Bring on the PT), then recovering her oxygen saturation numbers quickly.  Well, that, and retraining her heart to handle the physical activity again.  It’s amazing the muscles that can get lazy when they haven’t been used for a month or so.  Things really seem to be looking up.

2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”

Father, please keep Christina on track with her PT exertions and heart and lung recoveries.  And thanks that Chris’ recorder is working properly.  Amen.
