July 4 – “Happy New Year … er … “

I know.  I know.  It's really Independence Day.  The Fourth of July.  Fireworks Day.  Parade Day.  Or depending on your perspective … the Day after Nathan's Birthday.   The Day Josh and Christi and their Boys are Here.  Day Three of Vacation Bible School.  Or how about just "the day the Lord has made"?  That's a good one.  Then no matter what other tag you put on it, we can still "rejoice and be glad in it."  I'm all about that rejoice and be glad thing.

Josh and Christi did get here last night.  Right after I finished mowing and edging and sweeping.  I was dripping wet with sweat.  Chris was in the back with me admiring her plants.  Mom actually met them at the front door when they got here.  She's been getting around pretty well, but she is still pretty confused most of the time.  I never cease to be amazed at how good Chris is with her.

Vacation Bible School seems to be going pretty well.  The group from Mineral Wells has enrolled 13 or 14 kids from the area, whether locals or vacationers they found on the beach.  I saw one of the dads in the parking lot.  He and his family come every so often.  His daughter is coming to VBS.  I also saw a couple who have been to Seaside several times.  He returned from serving in the military with PTSD and has a service dog.  They just got married and are now serving at a struggling nearby church as worship leaders.  They said the church plans to launch a restart in the Fall.  I volunteered Seaside to help out in any way we could.

We went to lunch with Nathan and April and Cailyn to celebrate his birthday.  He chose Saltgrass Steak house.  We don't go there often, but it is usually pretty good.  Nathan had some bad luck, though.  He ordered his steak cooked medium and it came back definitely well done.  He didn't want to send it back, though.  Not sure what happened there.  At one point he reached for his drink and instead hit it with his hand, knocking it into Mom's drink.  Both of them fell over, spilling all over the table and Mom's lap.  Needless to say he was a tad embarrassed.    I actually thought Mom did it, but Nathan insisted it was him.  Either way, it was good of him to take the hit.  Hope his birthday supper turned out better.

Psalms 8:1 says, "O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!  You have set your glory above the heavens."

Father, thank you for the chance to live in a place where there is an Independence Day.  Bless the guys and their families who keep making this possible.  Amen.
