July 11 – “Speaking of bugs”

We got Mom into the doctor yesterday to have her checked out concerning her bizarre behavior.  As we expected she has yet another urinary tract infection.  It is amazing to me how something like that has such a profound effect on her mental state.  That's a connection I don't think I'll ever understand.  She has to take a big dose of antibiotics for a week, then half of that dose for a month after that.  The doc wants to make sure they get rid of the bug completely.

Speaking of bugs, we got a text on the way home from the doctor's office from Nathan and April.  Seems the city had issued an ecoli alert about our city drinking water.  They were advising residents to boil all drinking water, including that for pets, for at least 24 hours or until further notice.  Sounded just like a hurricane aftermath alert.  We were actually in the parking lot of Randall's when the text came, so we picked up a few cases of bottled water.  I notified the folks from Palo Pinto county staying at Seaside so they would be careful.  As it turns out the newspaper story on the problem today says that the sample in question may have been tainted in some way.  Now I guess I'll have to track down the city's website to find out when the ban gets lifted.  In the meantime we'll brush out teeth with a bottle of water and boil water before we boil water to make coffee and tea.

The group staying at Seaside has an old friend among them.  The Gage family came down after Hurricane Ike and worked on our house.  Actually they worked on the trees around our house.  Ferel was the Tarzan Man.  He climbed up into the sagging trees with a chain saw and did some serious pruning.  His kids were here, too.  They swept brush off the roof and carried branches and things to the street.  Great family.  We're looking forward to showing them the house.  We just have to find a time when they are not at the Vacation Bible School they are helping with.

Psalms 10:17 says, "You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry."

Father, protect the people of Galveston from this bug.  Amen.
