October 9 – “Keep on praying …”

We had a bit of a setback in the Covid department as of yesterday.  Christina completed her round of drugs specific to fighting the virus.  That was a good thing.  But her scan showed that the pneumonia was a little worse.  So the docs decided it was best to keep her in ICU until that could be brought under control.  They then started her on a different medication she takes through an inhaler.  She told Kel that it feels like it has helped in that her chest doesn’t feel as tight when she breathes.  I would certainly say that is a positive.  She is also sitting up in a chair and following the orders of a physical therapist, so there are a few more steps in the right direction.  I understand that it is still a pretty serious situation.  In fact we have mobilized prayer warriors literally all over the country.  But I find that a combination of being optimistic and trusting what I can’t control to God helps me and those around me to cope in otherwise overwhelming circumstances.  Keep on praying …

Meanwhile, back at the Waco camp …

Josh went to New York City for a segment of his doctoral seminar training.  He got to visit in person with some of the big names in the theological scene. He sent us pictures from what I guessed might have been taken from the Empire State Building.  One of the pictures was of the area known as Hell’s Kitchen.  He was disappointed that he didn’t see Daredevil anywhere.  He also went for a run in Central Park.  He was searching for Buddy the Elf.  Or maybe Santa Claus.  But his streak of disappointment continued.  Best he could do was the statue where they once landed.

Speaking of Waco, Christi sent us some in-game footage of Luke playing in his flag football league.  He did amazing, of course.  He scored three touchdowns.  One was on a one-handed reception of a long pass.  On defense he single-handedly prevented no less than four touchdowns from scoring.  And to top it all off, he won the mass footrace after the game.  That’s my boy.

Continuing in the realm of sports, we watched the Astros win their second playoff game in a row.  One more and they advance to the next round.

After the game we took Micah and Josiah to their karate class.  Well, I guess this wasn’t actually a class.  On Friday nights they have a competition where everyone is divided into teams (eight teams … there are a LOT of karate kids), and they proceed to wail on each other, scoring points for each time they connect.  They can get extra points for the most difficult moves as well.  Both boys did great.  I’m pretty sure Micah accomplished one of the three point moves, a leap into the air, spinning kick to his opponent’s headgear.  Impressive stuff.  They both seemed to have a great time.  Not a sport I understand as yet, but impressive, nonetheless.

Psalms 94:19 says, “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”

Father, again we ask that you touch Christina with your healing.  Surround her with your love and protection.  Be with Kel and the kids as well.  Heal him and walk with them.  Amen.
