It was water exercise for me. Walking and steps for Chris. I gotta say, she has been missed by the folks at water exercise class. One fellow said to me as I left, “Tell Chris we managed to muddle through without her today.” Yep. Old guy.
In
the afternoon we headed up into Texas to LaMarque Vaughan headquarters. It’s time to get it cleaned up for when Mom
eventually gets to come home. I’m not
sure we are shooting for “Granny Clean,” but we do need to clear as much floor
space as possible for a potential walker and possible oxygen bottle carrier
(whatever that might look like).
Chris
took the upstairs. Well, part of
it. She attacked the bathroom up there
and Noa and Ezra’s room. My responsibility
was the kitchen and family room downstairs.
The boys helped us, of course, especially since we didn’t know where
anything was supposed to live. (Oh, “the
boys.” Ezra and Noa were spending a few
days with some of their cousins, so it was just Jachin – who was in and out
from his school classes, Micah and Josiah).
It took every bit of the several hours we were there, but we finally
worked down to being able to vacuum the carpets. The kitchen counters were all cleared and
cleaned in plenty of time for the meal that was brought for them. Roast in a crock pot. Smelled really good, but it wasn’t quite
ready yet, so it was plugged in and steaming when we left. We dropped off Micah and Josiah at karate on
our way home. Jachin was scheduled to
pick them up. And by the time we got
home … I was beat. Sore all over, but
especially my back. The plan is to head
back over today, though, and attack some more, so I’ll just have to get over
it.
Christina,
by the way, is doing great. She
facetimed us on our way up there. We
basically had lunch with her, except she was the only one eating. She is down to just regular oxygen. There is still no room available in the step-down
unit, but she is making some strides where she is. She is standing and sitting up. She’s also working with physical therapy and
occupational therapy, doing all the stuff they require of her. Kel was able to spend the whole afternoon
with her again. One step at a time …
Proverbs
17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time
of adversity.”
Father,
thank you for the time we had to spend with the boys. Thank you for the folks who are sending meals
and encouragement as well. It has been
greatly appreciated. Amen.
