February 6 – “A task for the future”

I finished the Travel Buddies Log yesterday.  Almost ten pages of critters of all shapes and sizes.  Still not sure of their final resting place, however.  For now, they are back where they have been, beside my desk awaiting the return of the grandkids.  And the file cabinet is still out in the garage.  A task for the future …

Is that how this retirement thing is supposed to go?  Discover and move from one task to the next, throw in a travel adventure here and there, work on a jigsaw puzzle (we started a new one), watch some TV sports or a movie, and mix in a nap or two?  Oh, and maybe – just maybe – when it gets warmer, sneak in a fishing trip.  I do still have to try out my new rod and reel retirement gift.

Speaking of TV sports, that is what we did for most of the day yesterday.  College basketball.  (Well, Chris read a book).  Things are just beginning to spiral down toward March madness.  Last year’s national champion Baylor Bears are struggling to win games in their own conference.  Auburn is ranked number one.  Where are the Gonzagas and the Dukes?  Looks like the tournament this year will be one to behold, that’s for sure.

And speaking of jigsaw puzzles, I have an observation.  Peaceful, serene photos of thirty or forty sailboats moored in the calm waters of a bay near a marina on a beautiful day without a cloud in the sky do not make for the easiest jigsaw puzzles.  The water is all the same color, as is the sky.  The boats all look the same.  The marina offers some differences, as does the greenery of the nearby land mass.  But for the most part … three colors.  It’s on the table.  Feel free to try your hand when you come to visit.  My goal is to have it done before the Super Bowl commercial party here next Sunday (shameless advertisement.  5:00 next Sunday, the 13th.  Come).  We’ll see how far we get.

Proverbs 11:25 says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Father, please be with Kel and the folks at Seaside this morning.  Bless them all with your presence.  Amen.
