We became karate grandparents for a while yesterday. All four of Kel’s kids (minus Jachin, of course) competed in a tournament in Dickinson. It was a puzzle to locate each one when their turn on the mat came, but we got to see each one do his (or her) specialty. And wow, were they ever impressive.
Ezra participated in an event where the kids whooped on each other with what looked like a training light saber. He lost his bout on a point called at the last second. Noa performed a kata that she had created. It included her doing the splits. She was first place. Josiah also did a kata, and won first place, in fact. But he was most excited to perform his routine with a bowstaff. That was amazing. He ended up placing second. The winner was apparently a world class karate person with lots of tournament experience. Not a bad finish, there Josiah. Micah got a second place as well. I don’t understand the scoring system. Sure looked like he was flying like a whirling dervish (and connecting) to me.
We made a quick stop at Walmart on the way home. Sam had some prescriptions waiting. We also grabbed a couple of sub sandwiches. We ended up having sandwiches and chicken and dumplings for lunch and supper. Good stuff.
We ended the night watching a few games of college basketball. Building up to March Madness, you know.
Mark 4:9 says, And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Father, thank you for the athletic abilities you have gifted all our kiddos with. Keep them safe as they use it. Amen.
