February 10 - “Not one. Not two. Almost three…”

We had a little bit of excitement yesterday. As we were arriving home from our mile-and-a-halfer, we noticed a police car parked in front of the house next door. OK. That’s not such an unusual occurrence, but it has been a while. Chris went on to the back to get her steps in, but I got some water and sat on our front porch bench to cool down. This time there was no yelling as is the norm (We might have just missed it this time), but before long a second police car drove up and parked and joined his comrade. And before long a third one drove by oh-so slowly. He didn’t park, though. He must have seen the all’s OK sign or something.

Actually, this turned out to be one of the calmest escapades we’ve seen over there. Just as soon not know who called the cops or why, though. Let us live in peace in our quaint, safe little corner of the universe.

We made a major excursion happen in the afternoon. Walmart. We had three different lists we were operating from. Our needed groceries. Sam’s list of stuff. And my list of prizes for the Super Bowl Commercial Party Sunday night. The checker was impressed that all of the prizes were going to be advertised during the game. And it was not necessarily an easy task, by the way. One thing in particular I had never heard of. I googled it, and found that it could reasonably refer to two radically different things. Not so helpful. I picked one and went with it. Now I just have to assign a random number to the prizes and print out a corresponding list of numbers. The numbers will go into a hat , and the winners of the games will draw for which prize they will receive. Sounds more complicated than it is.

Last night we left the island to head into Texas City. Cailyn’s soccer team had a game there. Their last few games have been drenchers (rain), and at least one was canceled. Last night the weather was great, though. And even better … the good guys won 2-1. And that center midfielder (AKA Cailyn) was amazing. Go Santa Fe!

Oh. And in the stands I got to reconnect with an old friend, James. He was there to watch his daughter MacKenzie. And in a fun side plot, when MacKenzie saw me in the stands, she commented about “my Pastor Kelley.” Cailyn said I was her grandfather, and as a result, the two of them remembered their old not-quite-forgotten softball days together.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭24‬-‭27‬ ‭ says, But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

Father, be with our neighbors. It can’t be good for them when a visit from the police is old hat. Amen.
