September 4 – “Decision”

We successfully made our way back to Galveston yesterday.  The trip did involve a stop or two along the way and one major thunderstorm just outside of Houston, but we are home.  Our first stop was at the Cracker Barrel in Brenham.  That has become our “usual” mealtime break on our route to and from Waco.  They always have fun stuff to browse through and reminisce about.  Chris even bought a dress-up dress for Cailyn’s stash we keep in the closet.  Lunchtime menu?  Chris had the daily special Chicken Pot Pie.  I settled for one of my all-time favorites – fried chicken livers and fried okra.  I know, not a favorite for very many of us, but tasty, nonetheless.

The second stop was right smack in the middle of the Houston Heights.  That’s what they call the neighborhood surrounding downtown Houston.  Chris found a website for Amish furniture that was located there, so we took a short cut to check it out.  And the visit may just have been profitable for both parties concerned.  She found a bookcase that would be really good for displaying her Precious Moments.  It would have to be made a little bigger than the display model, and have some other somewhat minor modifications, but it has fit the bill way better than anything else she has seen.  It even has that elusive “character” that cannot be adequately described.  Of course it will take three months for the thing to be made and delivered to Houston.  Then we have to decide whether to have it delivered or go pick it up ourselves.  It really is a pretty nice looking piece.  The best thing about it, though, is the fact that Chris likes it.  She didn’t pull the trigger on it though.  Ever the cautious one, you know.  Problem is, we stopped at the Amish place at Baybrook Mall, and she saw one there that she kind of liked as well.  Decisions, decisions.  I vote for the one in the Heights.  More character, more “finished” look, more expensive.  Oh, well.  We’ll see how this one plays out.

Joshua 24:15 says, “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Father, guide our choices in the things that really matter.  And a little assistance in the minor things will always be appreciated, as well.  Amen.
