August 28 - “Even on the road”

We woke up at the Waco Vaughan’s house, and Chris was immediately ready to go for a walk. Even on the road. We have been to here, done that here before, though. We already have a two mile course marked in our minds. So two-miler it was. Afterwards, I remembered to do the hip strengthening exercises the doc gave me. That put my workout total over the 40-minute mark. On a Saturday, on the road. Check. 


We got word through Facebook of a big sale at the Iron Wheel Antiques and Gifts Emporium (I don’t think “Emporium “ is in their actual title, but it should be. In fact they could probably do with a little “Ye Olde” at the front, too). It is located in a small community near Mansfield called

Kennedale. A friend from long ago has a booth there, and we’ve been wanting to go. So … why not? We got I. The road around 12:30 with a turkey sandwich and a bag of Cheetos. Here we go. 


We found the antique mall easily enough. We roamed around looking for our friend Pat’s booth, but couldn’t find it. That is, until she walked up to us and asked what we were doing there. We chatted with her for a long time, and ultimately Chris bought some material and a quilting triangle from her. No souvenirs for me, although I almost bought a program from an Astros vs. Cubs game in 1970. I curbed any hoarder impulse within, however. 


We finally actually hit the road for home. That was quite the detour. Only an hour and a half out of the way, but it was good to see Pat. 


Lamentations‬ ‭3:22-23 says, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”


Father, please watch over Pat and her family. Walk with them through the craziness of life.  Help them to know you are truly there. Amen.
