May 12 – “Corona ups and downs”

OK.  Monday.

As usual my Monday begins with work.  Biggest workday of the week, other than Sunday.  It’s the day I tie together everything from last week to whatever needs to happen in the coming week.  How do pastors take Monday as a day off?  How do pastors take a day off at all?  Down …

We did do a walk.  Well, it was kind of off and on.  We stopped to chat with two old guys a few streets over who have lived in the neighborhood for years.  In fact we reminisced about “the old days” in the neighborhood.  And then we stopped to talk with one of the fire fighters living around here, Jonathan.  He was watering his grass.  I really do like the way people have been drawn together …real Corona neighborhoods.  Up …

Speaking of days off, I found out yesterday that one of our Seasiders is in the hospital.  Ed Jackson, whose wife died just last year causing him to move to Tomball to be near his daughter, was down in Galveston at his old house when he had a stroke.  He was rushed to UTMB where he is actually doing OK.  At least he seemed OK when I talked to him on the phone.  It is very frustrating as a pastor not being able to visit him in the hospital.  One of the safety measures of the Corona Society.  I’m worried how that will play out when Chris has her MRI.  She’s pretty claustrophobic.  Last time she had one I had to sit in the room with her and keep my hand on her leg.  And if for some reason her issues end up with her in the hospital, I will be faced with my same pastoral quandary if they don’t let me stay with her.  Ah well, that one’s not a problem yet.  Don’t make it a problem until it becomes a problem.  Down …

And not long after we got home from our walk, we had some special visitors.  Cailyn and April were out on a walk and stopped by.  Actually their boxer Tillie was taking them for a walk.  Apparently Tillie had a little attempted altercation with a German Shepherd they passed.  Tillie pulled Cailyn off balance, so April was hanging on to the leash.  Good thing.  Freddy was ready to defend some territory against the gigantic interloper.  Up …

Oh, we got our personalized letter from President Trump yesterday, too.  Looks like he signed it in a big ol’ black magic marker.  He even signed the back side too … in Spanish.  He was just letting us know that he was sending us our Corona Stimulus Check.  Thanks, President Trump.  Of course we received the check several weeks ago.  Up …

“Ups win.”

Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”

Father, thank you for the chance to see April and Cailyn and Tillie and Jonathan and those two old guys we reminisced with about the neighborhood.  Amen.
