November 5 – “Food-hopping”

We did some food-hopping after church yesterday.  The lunch stop was not that unusual an occurrence.  We often go out with some Seaside folks, but this time was a little different.  How?  It was Biker Rally Weekend.  Granted, it was Sunday and a lot of the 500,000 plus people had already begun to head off the Island.  But going to a restaurant during any of the big tourist weekends in Galveston is sometimes taking your life in your hands.  So, for lunch we joined a few folks at Golden Corral.  We hadn’t been there in a really long time.  Not Chris’ favorite dining establishment.  And it was pretty expensive.  They up their pricing on Sunday to gouge the after-church crowd, just like everyone else.  The company was good, though.  Oh, and they now have actual, full-sized fried shrimp along with their popcorn shrimp.  I had plenty to eat.

On the way to Golden Corral, I made a comment about one of the newer regular couples at Seaside.  They seem like they would be a lot of fun to get to know, but we just never had the chance to spend any time with them.  That was about to change.  Last night, on the spur of the moment (Well, after a bit of a nap, I confess), we made our way to hear our worship leader and his band (the version that includes our neighbor, fiddle-playing Corey).  They were at a place not far from the house (West side of 61st Street, of course) called the Tipsy Turtle (We had chicken tenders and tater tots.  Not bad).  And who should greet us as we walked in but the couple we had been talking about earlier.  We were able to hang out with them and a few other Seasiders who had come to enjoy the music.  Always amazes me the different ways God answers prayers that we didn’t even know we were praying …

We also watched the end of the Texans game with a couple we met from Boston.  They had heard the music from their hotel room next door and came over to see what was going on.  I had an Astros shirt on, so that started the discussion.  They rooted for the Astros in the World Series last year, so I confessed that I rooted for Boston once or twice this year … especially against the Yankees.  That one statement made me a friend for life.

Psalms 111:3 says, “He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate.”

Father, thank you for answering prayers … creatively answering prayers.  Makes it a lot more fun.  Amen.
