November 4 – “An interesting distress call”

We had an interesting distress call yesterday morning.  Frantic is more like it.  We were scheduled to have Cailyn for the day since both parents were working.  Being a Saturday, that mean she gets to sleep in and call us when she is up and at ‘em.  Well, that call did come, but it had a bit of a different aroma to it this time.  Seems in the time it took for Cailyn to go up to her room to start getting ready to leave and a doggie check she did just a few minutes later, one of those beloved pups had spread … diarrhea all over the house.  Literally from the front door to the back.  Cailyn was in a bit of a minor panic.  Not so much because one of the dogs had been sick.  No … the issue was, she had already called her Daddy and he had told her to put the dogs outside and clean it up.  Yikes.  She was already gagging as she talked to Nani on the phone.  So what did we do?  Well, we were shooting for the Grandparents of the Month award, so we headed on over so Chris could help her clean it up.  See how I did that there?  That was my official confession that I was on hand for moral support.  Oh, and a bit of supervision, you know?

In the afternoon I watched some college football games.  Just a smattering here and there.  Texas Aggies.  Baylor Bears.  Texas Longhorns.  Even a taste of the Alabama-LSU game.  Didn’t see the ending of any of the games, though.

Last night we met up with Kel and Christina and the kids to go to the Lone Star Flight Museum.  It was Astronomy Night, and they were to have their telescopes out and pointed to the stars.  We divided up the kids and took off, only to find as we waited in traffic that the even had been cancelled.  Not that we were surprised.  It was way too cloudy to even attempt a glance at the stars.  So sad.  But all was not lost.  Plan B kicked in, and we went to a McDonald’s indoor playground for some ice cream.  However … the ice cream machine was broken.  The playground still worked though, so the kids played for a while as Mommy came up with Plan C.  We left McDonald’s and she stopped at WalMart for some ice cream for us to enjoy at home.  Blue Bell Christmas Cookie Dough.  Strange array of flavors, that one.  Not terrible, but I could never get any ice cream.  Too much added stuff.

Back at home I changed most of the clocks in the house so we could get that extra hour of Daylight Savings Time Fall Back sleep.  I think something happened to our newspaper carrier, though.  He made it shortly thereafter, though.  And the paper was a scant three paces from the front door.  Gotta love that guy.

Psalms 111:3 says, “Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever.”

Father, be with our newspaper delivery guy.  He has a tough job.  Amen.
