October 7 - “Hangwoman”

Bob wears orange.

Don’t hit Bob.

We need Bob.”

That’s the signage on the roadway in Vicksburg, Mississippi, that greeted us as we left the hotel. Please, folks. If you’re driving through Mississippi, be ever mindful of good ol’ Bob. They really need him.

We looked hard for something to do or see on this particular leg if our journey - I20 through Northern Louisiana. Aside from the whole Duck Commander experience, which we have already done, things looked pretty bleak. We did stop for gas in West Monroe. Didn’t see Willie of the gang, though. Guess they don’t get gas at the QT.

We finally crossed into Texas around lunch time, so we had to celebrate a little bit. The first Whataburger we came to was in Marshall, so off we went. Good to be back among something familiar. And speaking of familiar, when we needed gas a few hundred miles later, what should show up but … Buc-ees.

We made to Dallas in plenty of time to make the rehearsal dinner we had been invited to. Best part of the evening? Playing “Hangwoman” with a cute as a button nine-year-old girl named Aurora. The game went kind of like hangman, except she, with her remarkable dramatic skills, became the one being hanged. She announced a category (like “my favorite vegetable“), and I had to make the guesses. When I missed, she struck the appropriate pose to mirror the little hanged person on a piece of paper. Great fun. We met lots of the bride’s other family as well. It was also good to see a few of the Galveston connection folks. Many prayers for this meshing.

Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭5 says. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus

Father, thanks for getting us safely back into Texas. Amen.
