October 11 – “On one Sunday”

We had a pretty good crowd in church Sunday.  Over forty.  Even more visitors.  It seems like for some reason more and more locals have just decided to try Seaside out.  Sounds good to me.  Our number two guitar player in the praise team, Dale, approached me during our time of encouragement and said he just wanted to make sure he was included as someone who was “all in.”  He wanted to join the church.  Again, sounds good to me.

After church a future bride came by the house to talk about the beach wedding she wanted next Spring.  She brought her Mom and Grandmother.  I grew up knowing her Mom, Liz.  And her grandmother is none other than Mrs. Betty, my Mom’s good friend who still comes to Home Group here just about every Thursday.  The groom is in the Coast Guard and won’t be here until two days before the wedding.  So we’ll treat this one like a true destination wedding.  No rehearsal.  Always a fun experience, especially since they have a couple of youngsters in the wedding party.

When they left we headed up to Santa Fe to see some of Cailyn’s FallBall softball game.  It was already in progress, but as luck would have it, we walked up just as she was striding to the plate.  Her third base coach was her Daddy.  Her first base coach was her Mommy.  What pressure.  A foul ball.  Strike one.  Brief words of encouragement from her other coach (It’s a coach-pitch league).  Deep breath.  Another pitch.  And she smacked a shot down the third base line for a single.  She eventually came around to score.  They ended up losing that game 10-2.  Scored both runs and held the other team scoreless after we arrived.  Guess we need to get there earlier next time.  The did win their earlier game, though, 13-8.  They are really learning a lot and seem to be getting much better.  And that is the purpose of this Fall league.  We were some proud grandparents.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says, “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Father, walk with Amanda as she gets all the details planned for her wedding.  Help Dale grow in you.  And keep all of our little athletes safe.  Amen.
