August 4 – “Back during Cold War days …”

I got a text last night informing me that one of the guys signed up for the True Love Waits weekend has dropped out.  That means I might have just one guy for the small group sessions.   I guess we’ll see how he likes one on one time with me.  I wish we had another copy of the book we are teaching.  I could just let him have the time to read it and ask me if he has any questions.  But then he would miss the unprecedented opportunity to delve into the deepest reaches of my as-yet fully untapped brain.  Wouldn’t want to let that slip by.

We finally got to see some of the Olympics action this week.  The girls’ gymnastics squad did a great job coming back from early mess-ups.  I actually peeked at the spoiler alert on line earlier in the day and saw that they had won. I didn’t let on to Chris, and it was still fun to watch anyway.  I’ve had a thing for gymnastics since I was the trainer assistant for the gymnastics team back in college.  I taped ankles for the basketball team as well, and the gymnastics guys were much nicer by far.

It was sad about Russia’s melt-down.  At least they don’t have the same worries after defeat that they did back during Cold War days.  At least I hope they don’t.  You know, now that I think about it, I don’t know for sure what happened “back during Cold War days.”  That was the whole point with it being a Cold War.  Neither side knew for sure what the other side was thinking or doing behind closed doors.  And I guess for the most part we still don’t.  The target for the mistrust has kind of shifted further east, and there is much less posturing and bragging and warning about dropping bombs and such.  But “love for fellow man” is certainly not an accomplished goal.  Just goes to show that … lasting, life-changing love lifting lackadaisical leaders leans liberally Lord-ward.  Say that three times really fast.

Psalms 19:4-6 says, “In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.   It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat.”

Father, use this weekend to do some life-changing.  Amen.
