August 14 - “Campus Parent and Family Day”

Well, with one less kid to fit in the car (2 if you count Jachin), we were able to consolidate. All of us piled into one car - the luxury rental - and headed to the campus. The plan (I think) for the morning was to explore the campus, peruse the book store, and enjoy their cafeteria buffet for lunch.

We got the exploring started right after we parked. From the parking garage emanated a pedestrian tunnel that ran under the entire freeway. On the other side of the tunnel? Why, the campus, of course. Interesting choice of construction.

Our next discovery was a museum of really old Bibles. From Hebrew and Greek to Arabic and English. Had a page of a Gutenberg Bible. Also had a Bible with handwritten notes and signed by D.L. Moody. Impressive.

We roamed around a bit. Even climbed (read here “rode the elevator“) to the top of the 17 story observation tower that is part of the theology building. The one meeting we had to attend was an intro session for parents and family. Usual stuff. We promise to take good care of your kid, etc.

Afterward, hundreds of parents and students gathered on a massive lawn. We heard prayers from several school officials first. Then everyone clustered to pray for their individual incoming student. The session closed when a music professor sang The Lord’d Prayer. Pretty impressive. No more so than the prayers, though.

After prayer we walked over to the library. Now, it had probably the most surprising development I have seen yet. One small section had available for checkout things like games (table and video), iPads, frisbees, and even a ukulele.

Next we went to the building where Micah has his debate team training. The debate team he is on held a dinner for incoming students and their families. Bojangles chicken. Unexpected, but not bad.

We ended the night back at the house. Ice cream time.

Nahum‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬ says, The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; He cares for those who take refuge in Him.

Father, as we leave Micah this afternoon, watch over him. Keep him close to you. Amen.
