August 11 - “Lynchburg!”

Well, we said our goodbyes to Washington, D.C. and hit the road for phase two of our journey. South to Lynchburg!

We made a quick stop in Culprpper, Virginia. Went to Walmart to get some lunch. We just grabbed a small fried chicken meal. We combined it with the chicken we had in the ice chest from Bojangles. Plenty of food. We also filled up with gas before we left town.

I know I haven’t mentioned the scenery much here. Maryland and Virginia and D.C. all have significant hills (I know because we walked them). But those first two are actually really pretty as well. Lots and lots of trees lined the rural road we were on.

We finally reached the end goal of phase one. Pulled into Liberty University around 2:15. Micah’s dorm room is across a freeway (by a bridge connection) from the actual campus. He’s on the third floor (no elevator). But, boy! Does he ever have an amazing view from his room. Campus buildings, sure. But in the background are some really pretty mountains. And trees. Lots of trees. Chris’ comment was, “This reminds me of Colorado.”

We left Micah to get ready for the meeting he had last night. That meant finding and moving into a new house for us. And this one was amazing. We had to park on the street, but the inside was worth the effort. Chris and I had an entire suite to ourselves. Kitchen, bathroom, the works.

After dinner we took a walk and discovered a Civil War historical trail just a block from the house. The trail ran parallel to the James River, and the highlight was the remains of the boat that carried Stonewall Jackson’s body to its resting place. Well, that was cool, but there WAS that wiffleball game the guys played using their bargain basement bats and balls they found at Walmart. Chris and I had field level seats from the swing set. That is until I may or may not have joined in as designated hitter. Swings and misses are not great for bum backs.

Final task of the day? Pick up Micah and take him … to Walmart. Had to set him up with some grub. I think he’s got a pretty good start until the school cafeteria opens.

Luke‬ ‭12‬:‭40‬ says, You also be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.

Father, thanks for you for the cool find of that trail. And thanks for the ball game with the kids. Amen.
