January 7 - “Rabbit trails”

Well … winter got here. We got down to 34 degrees. But the wind was blowing like crazy, too. Shot the wind chill down to the low teens. We technically didn’t freeze, but when Chris and I went out on the front porch to cover a few plants - in our pajamas - let me tell you … it was cold.

Fortunately, we didn’t need to go to Walmart - or anywhere else for that matter. We found plenty of stuff to do around the house. Chris wanted to clean out her closet. That meant she had to wash clothes to get them out of her way. On one of her rabbit trails, we went through our computer files looking for what dates I did each of the carvings. Most were Christmas related with an accompanying story, so she wanted to find a copy of all the stories I wrote and match them up. It was fun to look at them and reminisce. Not so fun to poke around files. One thing we didn’t find that we also searched for … my college and seminary diplomas and my ordination papers. Still not sure where those are.

A good thing did come out of the cold weather, though. Tamales for lunch and chicken and dumplings for supper. Great cold weather delicacies. Made even better by the fine hand of Chef Chris.

John‬ ‭3‬:‭21‬ says, But anyone who lives by the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be shown to be accomplished by God.

Father, thanks for keeping us warm during this cold snap. Amen.
