August 14 – “Yesterday … Yesterday … Yesterday?”

OK.  So today I talk about yesterday, right?  And tomorrow I talk about today?  But yesterday I talked about yesterday.  And tomorrow today will be yesterday.  So tomorrow I will be talking about yesterday again and I’ll never get around to talking about today.  Hmm.  My head hurts.

Sooo … yesterday we were in Waco.  We still are today, just in case it doesn’t come up tomorrow.  But we are going home later today, so tomorrow we will have been home yesterday.  Are we confused yet?

It was a quiet, simple day for us.  Josh left for work and I finished up yesterday’s blog about the day before yesterday, which was yesterday at the time.  Christi made some awesome waffles for breakfast.  Better than the kind you get at hotels in the free breakfast nook.  AnnaGrace entertained with a constant rendition of singing from Frozen.  Quite a talent already …

The big action began later in the day when we went to a Mall.  Yep.  A real shopping mall like the kind that used to be the place to be … yesterday?  We weren’t there to do any shopping, though.  Nope.  This time we were going to play indoor putt putt moon golf.  The whole place was flooded in black lights, and the balls were neon, glow in the dark colors.  Interesting concept.  It was quite popular, too.  I decided the course was designed by someone who was left handed, though.  Some of the required shots were virtually impossible to take right handed.  Bottom line here … Luke smoked us all.  He played a solid first round, and then came from behind to overtake the field and win it all in round two.  Nice job, Luke.  We celebrated on the way home with a stop at Sonic for Happy Hour drinks.  I haven’t had a cherry limeade slush in a long time.  As my pal Gomer would say, “It was goo-oood.”

When Josh got home they took Chris and me out for our birthday at Chris’ favorite Mexican food place.  Why is her favorite Mexican food place in Waco?  No idea.  Maybe because we try to hit every time we visit up here.  Their beef quesadillas ARE pretty good though …

After supper we went back to the house for a surprise dessert.  At least it was a surprise to me.  I think Chris knew all about it.  Christi and the kids had baked a birthday cake for us.  Two tiered chocolate with chocolate icing in between and on top.  Can’t beat chocolate.  We all blew out our sparkly candles to the tune of a certain birthday ditty, and we all had a big piece of cake and some ice cream.

We ended the evening with part two of the Alaska trip review … whale review.  That’s what Josh wanted to see more than anything.  It was fun to think again about just how many we saw and how in awe we were at the time.  Christi had a stream of questions, and Chris was in her element, answering them all.  We finished up – finally – had family worship, and headed on to bed.  Great family.  Great day … Yesterday …

Proverbs 18:24 says, “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

Father, thank you for birthday cakes and Mexican food and … well, for yesterdays.  Amen.
