September 7 – “Seaside Sunday”

We had an intimate holiday crowd at church yesterday.  Fairly small (I think I counted around 28 people), but everybody seemed excited about being in church on the Labor Day weekend.  A lot of our Seaside regulars were gone for the holidays, but others came in from out of town to plug right in.  Wes and Jim and Dana did a great job leading worship.  One lady told me she had asked a friend where the nearest Pentecostal church was.  He said it was at least 12 miles away, so she should really go to Seaside instead.  Another group of folks was borrowing a friend’s beach house.  He also told them specifically to go to Seaside on Sunday morning.  Thanks for the positive words of advertisement, whoever you are.

Two of the couples invited us to have lunch with them.  They were from Austin, and had been here for a day or two already.  They were trying to find the hidden places the locals go to eat.  They had already had some pizza, and had hit the Mosquito Café and a few others, but I noticed that not a single seafood place was mentioned.  I cautiously brought up seafood, in case someone may have an allergy or something.  Didn’t take long for that possibility to be washed aside, so I suggested Shrimp and Stuff, as I usually do.  One of the ladies remarked that “It’s one of the ones on our list,” so we were off.  They got there first and reserved us a table.  Good thing, too.  The place was hopping, as it usually is on a weekend.  We enjoyed a great lunch conversation about the 1900 Storm, the Galveston grade-raising, Hurricane Ike, and how Seaside came to be the place of refuge that it has become.  They couldn’t believe we were able to live on the Island without a second source of income, though.  It was a great opportunity to share that we have learned to trust God to provide what we need when we need it.

Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”

Father, thank you for what you have supplied us with.  Thank you even more for helping us learn to understand what it means to have “enough.”  Amen.

It is amazing when we look back and see how God provided for us during lean times.

Thank you who came to church hungry to worship. God is faithful to meet us and send His Spirit.
