Big
day at the Vaughan house. Cousins’
sleepover last night, for one thing.
That is always an event to behold, to say the least. Seven out of eight of the young Vaughan
grandchildren (Noa was at home sick. She
started running one of those FUO’s – Fever of Undetermined Origin) were here
from LaMarque and Waco and Galveston with the express purpose of … sleeping on
Nani and DadDad’s floor. Gotta love that
adventurous spirit, that willingness to sacrifice, that challenge to still like
each other in the morning.
The
highlight of the evening was movie time.
I actually made them watch the first half-inning of the Astros game, and
tried to convince them that would be the movie time for this most noted of
sleepover extravaganzas. Didn’t really
work. They were only scared for a moment
or two. They do know DadDad loves his
Astros. But apparently he loves his
grandkids a little bit more. Speaks
quite highly of those kids. And the
unanimous choice for the movie? The new Star
Wars flick, of course. Just picked it up
at WalMart the other day. I think they
had all seen it at the movie theater anyway.
Well, except Luke and Cailyn.
Luke is two and Mommy and Daddy nixed his viewing by taking him on a
field trip to the fire station to see Uncle Nathan. Cailyn couldn’t pass up a chance to see her
Dad, so she went with them. But the rest
of the guys couldn’t wait to see it again.
Oh,
and the other reason for “Big Day-dom” around here? Our new couch and chair arrived from Lazy
Boy. The delivery was supposed to happen
sometime between 4 and 7 p.m. We got “the
call” around 2 that they would be here in 5 minutes. That would be five minutes to clear out the
old couch and love seat and get them into the garage. Fortunately we had some strong grandsons
around who proved up to the task. They
helped Uncle Josh muscle them out just in time for the deliverers to get the
new couch and recliner in. Yep. Recliner.
That would be my part of the purchase.
Very comfy. Can’t wait to really
test it out. Oh, wait. Does the nap I took in it count?
Mark
5:36 says, “Ignoring what they said, Jesus
told the synagogue ruler, ‘Don't be afraid; just believe.’”
Father,
thank you for long-anticipated deliveries.
Nothing like anticipating a savior for 400 years, though. Amen.
