April 4 – “Ten at Ten”

It looked like we were going to have a really low day at church attendance-wise.  Guess the Easter rush took it out of a lot of people.  They must have needed yesterday to recuperate.  We had ten people there at ten o’clock.  But then we never start right at ten o’clock.  Island time and all.  We all had another donut or cup of coffee and enjoyed getting to know each other.  By the time we finished worship there were twenty-three hearty island timers.  Great day to worship.

After church we went out on a date … with Cailyn.  Just the three of us.  We went to McAlister’s Deli (her choice).  She surprised us by ordering a caked potato instead of the usual kid’s pizza or chicken strips.  What’s the deal?  Is she growing up, or what?  Chris had her usual turkey melt, but I had the potato soup with triple cheese.  Guess I’m growing, too.  Good stuff, that potato cheesey soup.

After lunch Chris and Cailyn went out in the front yard to do some gymnastics.  They also took a pretty long bike ride.  At least they told me they did.  I was holding down the fort here at the house.  Somebody had to make the sacrifice, right?  Besides, I was engrossed in a History Channel special on the Fall of the Third Reich.  And I even watched some of it.  Hey, there’s only so much energy I have on a Sunday afternoon.  I have to carefully conserve it.

Mark 6:2 says, “When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. ‘Where did this man get these things?’ they asked.  ‘What's this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles!’”

Father, thank you for dates with grandkids and Sunday afternoon “History Channel specials.”  Amen.
