October 9 – “Eyes on the Gulf … yet again”

Yes, it is true.  There is yet another hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.  Last night Chris and I (OK, mainly Chris) moved the big umbrella down from our deck.  She also beasted up one of the bigger plant pots from the deck landing and brought it under protection.  Then we took down the cover over the swing and laid that down on the ground.  No boarding up windows, though.  Those days are over for me.  Besides, we are only supposed to get tropical storm force winds and rain bands.  Should be a piece of cake.  Kind of fun, actually.  Especially since we also need to make a quick run back to Randall’s later to pick up a few prescriptions.  What great fun that will be.

We have been getting some calls and texts and FaceBook messages from friends and family up in the Northern frozen lands of Arlington and Missouri and Washington and the like.  They expressed concern for us with the storm growing in size and intensity.  We have assured them that we are still fine.  It is great to know someone still cares.  Prayers do need to go out to the folks in Louisiana, though.  Chris has a sister over there who is still living with a blue tarp on her rook after Hurricane Laura.  Now this one is taking aim at the same area.

On a lighter note, did I ever mention that we finished the latest jigsaw puzzle we had been working on?  The one with the cowboy and some wild horses painted with those dots and tiny brush strokes that make visual recognition extremely difficult.  Well, it is done.  And our whole little family worked on this one.  Even Freddy.  She put her dog mouth seal of approval on two pieces.  That’ll give whoever works it next something to think about.

Oh, and the other good news?  The Astros won the division series.  Their bats seem to have finally awakened.  The final score was 11-6.  Four home runs.  Hope they can keep that up.

Isaiah 26:4 says, “Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.”

Father, please surround the folks in the path of the storm with your protection.  Amen.
