December 7 – “It’s Han”

Not much time this morning, so let me just throw out a few kid-isms I heard over the holidays.

We took a trip over to the Air Museum at the airport.  Boy, was Josh ever in his element there.  He was certainly the man of the hour as he explained the ins and outs of each aircraft to his sons and nephews.  Cailyn wasn’t with us on that one, and Noa was … well, not exactly paying attention.  The quote of the day, though, goes to Josiah.  After seeing yet another huge airplane, he turned to me and announced, “When I grow up I’m going to join the Army and be a Navy Seal.”  Umm.  Didn’t know exactly how to answer that one, except to say he would indeed be one special guy.

On the way home we stopped by the house Nathan and April had put a contract on to buy.  Chris and Christi couldn’t stand the suspense of a simple drive by viewing, or even a pull in the driveway stare.  Not them.  They both just had to get out and peak in the window for a better look.  About that time, who should pull up behind us?  Nathan and April and Cailyn.  Busted.  Of course they don’t have keys or anything yet, but I’m sure they were able to offer some homeowner-type answers for the nosey ones.

Later that afternoon we finally saw, through the miracle of a FaceBook post, the trailer for the new Star Wars movie.  Cailyn was standing nearby, and suddenly cried out, “Hey.  I know who that is.  It’s Han.”  Nice job of recognition.  But then she continued, “But he looks so … old.”  Ouch.  Sorry old friend.  It happens to the best of us.

Proverbs 20:29 says, “The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old.”

Father, thank you for this gray hair of mine.  Represents a lot of that spent strength of youth.  Nice to feel splendor-ish.  Amen.
