February 10 – “A Break”

Ken left this morning.  Sounded like he was making good time.  About an hour after he left he called from somewhere west of Houston.  Just wanted  to say thanks again.

Finished our part of the income tax gathering process.  We took the package to the post office to get it in the mail to our accountant.  Now we hold our breath.

Spent a good part of today working on grant applications to get the Seaside Christian Academy building finished.  $30,000.  It just sounds like such a doable amount.  This is God's work we're talking about, after all.  He can do it.

The weather report keeps talking about sleet and snow in the forecast.  One TV reporter was standing outside in Katy.  He insisted it was sleeting.  Sure didn't look like anything to me.  And it's sure not here in Galveston, yet.  It's not even in the 30's yet.  That one snow on Christmas Eve a few years ago sure spoiled us.  It's harder to wait our usual fifteen years for the next snowfall when that one was so exciting.

The big news on our street happened around 2 a.m.  Apparently there was a major water main break in the middle of the street about two houses down.  Ken said he heard the commotion and thought we had a short in our porch light.  Turned out to be the flashing lights on the service truck.  They found the leak, turned off the water, repaired it, and turned the water back on all before 7 a.m.  By the time we got into our morning teeth brushing and toilet flushing all we experienced was that gurgling sound that happens when the water has been off and air is in the lines.  But there was a huge hole in the street.  Mud was everywhere.  It looked like we had just had a huge thunderstorm on one side of the street.  The backhoe and scraper were hard at work, and the hole at least got filled in.  All that kind of activity reminded us of the Claw and the Scraper that came through every day after the storm to pick up everyone's trashed belongings.  Not a very melodious sound.  And not a happy one to our ears.

Isaiah 12:2 says, "Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid.  The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation."

Father, thank you for making your song loud enough to drown out that Scraper.  Amen.
