One more three plus ten day behind us. Three mile walk and ten flights of stairs. When we finished Chris had an announcement. “Today is the day I would have added something else.” “Would have.” That’ was the key phrase as far as I was concerned. That meant there was hope that we were actually done. Sure enough, she relented on adding more, at least for one more day. And today we have water aerobics.
Yesterday was also our family Labor Day lunch. Well, minus the Waco clan. But the LaMarque Vaughan’s and Santa Fe Vaughan’s and the Geran Vaughan’s from across the street (???) all came down for some burgers and dogs. Three dogs, actually. Cailyn brought their smallest dude, Harley. Josiah brought their little one, Leia. And Freddy joined the mix to make three. Oh, we served hot dogs, too. They were smaller.
After
lunch, Kel and Christina took Jachin, Micah, Josiah, and Noa to the Astros
game. Ezra had the extreme privilege of
joining Leia for a night with the grandparents.
And what an afternoon and evening we had. While Nana cleaned the kitchen, he challenged
me to a game of Sorry. We also played Sniggle. Yep.
That’s really a thing. It’s a lot
like Sorry, only somewhat easier. Kind
of a pre-Sorry Sorry. Chris soon
tag-teamed in and they played Gum Guys, Sorry, and Operation. It was a real Tournament of Classics
Proportion.
Ezra
knew we would be watching the game on TV, so he and his Mom packed a bag of
baseball snacks (including a box of cracker jacks for me and Chris). And boy, when the game started, did he ever dig
in. Before Chris could turn around, he
was well on his way to munching his way through. We did get a few mid-game updates from the big
brothers. Jachin was especially
excited. Astros catcher Martin Maldonado
tossed him a ball he had been using during warm-up. Definitely a treasure for him. Micah borrowed my left-handers glove on the chance
someone hit him a home run. No luck
there, though. The Astros didn’t disappoint
in the action department, though. They
hit like crazy and ended up winning the game 11-2.
Ezra
gave up a little early. Around 8:30. He was sound asleep in mere moments once we
got him into bed. Didn’t even have to
turn on the racket machine they brought with them. I’m getting ready to head to water aerobics
and he’s still sleeping soundly. Dream
on, youngster …
Galatians
5:1 says, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves
be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
Father,
thank you for our afternoon with our youngest.
Help Ezra to continue growing and learning about your world and about
you. Amen.
