It was water aerobics day yesterday. And I noticed a few things along the route. Amazing the odd sights you can see in Galveston. One was pointed out by Chris a class or two ago. At the street where we make our turn there is a building with one of those huge work dumpsters out front. As fascinating as a huge dumpster may be, that’s not the interesting part here. Standing in the balcony of the building is a full-sized replica of a Civil War Era Confederate sentry, faithfully keeping watch in the direction of the Gulf for encroaching Union ships. That guy is sometimes joined by his real-life rather large dog. That one provides the real world sentry action, I suppose.
The
other thing I noticed was a bit further down the street. This image was on the wall of what I assume
to be a bar, maybe? It was one of those
huge outdoor wall paintings. This one
was of not one, but two larger than life-size angel bikers. I never saw the name of the bar, so I really
don’t know how inspiring the images have been to those within. I can only hope and pray when they see the
picture upon entry that it causes them to tone down the granting of control of
brain cells to a chemical substance.
Oh,
by the way … happy birthday to our aerobics teacher LeeAnn. She wanted to do some crazy things with us
for her birthday, but sadly, “social distancing prohibits it.” She promised goofiness next year on her
birthday, though.
Yesterday
afternoon we had a fire call on our street.
Not an actual fire, thank goodness.
It was a medical call that a fire crew responded to. It was way down at the other end of the street,
though, so I didn’t know the patient. I
walked down to check in with the fire fighters.
We had a chance to chat a bit while EMS took over with the patient and
loaded him up for transport. One of the guys
told me his wife gave Cailyn a ride to school yesterday. Nice to hear she is in good hands. We miss being the ones to give those rides …
Joel
2:12 says, “’Even now,’ declares the Lord, ‘return to me with all your
heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.’”
Father,
thank you for Scott and his wife being available to get Cailyn to school. Bless them for that, and please keep Cailyn
safe and happy in her new school. Amen.
