August 18 – “At the end of the day …”

At the end of the day Chris said her birthday was a really fun one.  And it did have its highlights.  She woke up to find her rocking chair occupied.  No, not by Freddy.  She has her very own rocking chair space.  It was her birthday present, and the box was huge.  She saw it, but then proceeded to walk toward the kitchen to fix some breakfast.  Wait a minute.  I told her it was fine if she wanted to open her gift first.  She didn’t argue.  Instead she tore in.  It was one of those new-fangled air fryers.  Supposed to make fried chicken and French fries all healthy but still taste the same.  I gotta see that.  Now I know what you are thinking.  It’s some kind of rule that you never get a woman an appliance for a gift.  But I had something else up my sleeve.

Chris left right after breakfast for her doctor’s appointment.  Blood pressure check time.  And the appointment was with a resident.  Strike one.  She also found out that the person she was originally told was to be her regular doctor was never assigned to her.  Instead she was assigned to yet another resident.  Strike two.  But this person she was seeing now wasn’t even that resident.  It was yet another one.  I’m so confused.  She did like this one, though.   Sadly, she won’t be around much longer.  New rotation and all.  She did a really thorough exam – that impressed Chris – and she tweaked the medications.  And she assured Chris that she would be the one to see her in a month to see how that med change was going.  I guess that was a good call.  Chris gave her a thumbs up.

When she got home (Chris, not the resident) she found a dozen multicolored roses on the table with a sticky note declaring Happy Birthday wishes.  And a little later she discovered another sticky note with those same salutations.  This one was in the refrigerator … stuck to a watermelon.  She was happy.  Cute girl.

We even went on a Corona Outing.  Don’t get too excited.  We went to Randall’s to pick up her new medications.  But, hey, we got out of the house.  Most of the rest of the day we spent at home.  I did some work, then almost finished our latest puzzle.  The birthday girl actually finished it, when she wasn’t reading her book or roaming around outside.  Time to start a new one.  Of course now she gets to enjoy her greatest gift of all … another year of me.

Titus 3:4-7 says, “Our Savior … saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”

Father, thank you for my wife.  It would be great to get her settled in with these meds so the blood pressure thing can be controlled.  And she still could use some relief in her back.  And we could all use some relief from this Corona stuff.  But we trust you.  Amen.
