The
big news this morning happened first thing this morning. No, I mean really the first thing. The Astros were involved in the longest ever
nine-inning game in the history of Angels stadium. The game started at 8:10 Central time and
ended at 12:30 a.m. That means it
started in July and ended in August.
Pretty significant record-setting there, guys. Of course part of the deal was the fact that
it was pretty much Round Rock’s pitching staff holding down the fort. That’s the Astro’s minor league
affiliate. And that meant a lot of walks
and hits and runners on base every inning.
As a result it wasn’t necessarily a boring game. Just really long. Oh, the Astros eventually won 9-6, so there’s
that …
We
finished up our yard work yesterday.
Mowing and edging, mainly. Chris
did a little bit in her flower beds, but when she started feeling the tiniest
bit weird, she shut it down. No repeats
of the collapse the day before, so all seems well in that department.
The
LaMarque Vaughans brought their Mom and Dad over for a visit. Actually Dad had to run an errand at the
AT&T store here on the Island, so they had little choice but to make the
run to Nana and DadDad’s house. So far
the kids still don’t seem to mind hanging out with the old fogies. At least as long as the snack cabinet is
fully stocked.
Noa
showed us what she has been learning in karate.
She graduated into the big kids’ section. I have no idea what the names are for any of
that, though. Just that she seems to be
doing well. Ezra just wanted to talk
about all things fire fighter. He is
still pretty passionate that that is what he wants to be when he grows up. He found my “walkie talkie” yesterday. He explained to me exactly how it worked and
where it was worn and how it could be operated if the fire fighter was wearing
his tanks on his back. Having a couple
of uncles in the biz, and a Chaplain DadDad to draw from has given him a lot of
fodder to feed his obsession. The kid has a pretty big head start. All you future rookies out there better watch
out …
John
6:53 says, “I am the living bread that
came down from heaven. If anyone eats of
this bread, he will live forever. This
bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
Father,
thank you for the passion in the eyes of Ezra when he talks about fire fighting. I know he may not continue in that particular
vein, but help him to always have that passion for whatever you call him to
do. Amen.
