Ah, the dog days of August are finally
over. Does this mean September promises
cooler days? That could be a
possibility. Now if we can just avoid
hurricanes for the next two months …
I spent the morning yesterday entertaining
the electrician at the church. Jim was
there for a while, too, which was really good, since I didn’t know any more
than where the different light switches were in the room. I gotta say, whoever put the electricity
together for that place was … quite creative.
Steve did everything he could think of to track the problem. It didn’t take him too long to reach the
point Jim had already reached … the issue had to be in a junction somewhere in
the ceiling. He started tracking. Finally, after working his way through four
different boxes, he decided enough was enough.
He simply ran a brand new line from the closest breaker box (yes, we have two different breaker boxes in
the building) to the switches. We
now have lights in the worship center.
In the afternoon we had a visit from Wayne
and Sheri, two of the good friends we went to Alaska with. They were spending the weekend in town with
two of their grandchildren (oh, and the
kids’ parents, as well). We did a
little rehashing of the trip, and shared a few photos. We are still looking forward to our pending
reunion with them and the Winkles all together.
We then joined them and their son and his family for supper over at
Fisherman’s Wharf. Chris and I split the
fisherman’s platter. Sheri had
salmon. Wayne and Jordan had fish and
chips. Jeremy had grilled red snapper. The kids had fish nuggets and fries (Eerily similar to fish and chips, but for
Americans. Oh, and the “nuggets” part
was a creation of their Nana. It always
helps to make good food sound like grease–bucket express fast food). Oh, and key lime pie for dessert. Three slices with eight spoons. It was kind of like being back on the cruise
ship. Well, except for the
entertainment. No goofy waiter from the
Philippines here. But then, we had the
kids. Always entertaining. A word to the wise when you visit Fisherman’s
wharf … be OK with being seated indoors.
And get there before seven on a holiday weekend.
John 7:38 says, “Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water
will flow from within them.”
Father, thank you for the reconnect with
Wayne and Sheri. And thanks for the
chance to see Jeremy and his family as well.
Bless their vacation time together in Galveston. Amen.
