September 5 – “On providing a nurturing environment”

Fitness update.  Walked two miles.  Walked three flights of stairs on our deck.  Did some lunges in between.  Sore later.

We made the big decision about the truck.  It is in the shop.  We developed a laundry list of projects that we have prioritized according to how much money we have available to put into the silly beast.  And of course the one extra one that was kind of a back-of-the mind suspicion came to fruition.  But not in a good way.  The problem with starting was two-fold.  The battery won’t hold a charge.  And the alternator wasn’t charging anyway.  Ouch.  On an interesting, God-thing kind of note, however, our mechanic Dennis said he is in a position where he really needs the work.  Last month was one of the worst he has had in a long time.  He needs the work.  So does our truck.  We just happen to have saved up some money designated for this expenditure.  What a coincidence?  Nah.

I have been picking some satsumas from our tree in the backyard.  For the first time they are both really juicy and actually taste good.  And the backyard critters sure like them.  I suspect birds and rats.  There are some satsumas still attached to the tree that have been gnawed all the way through as part of some creature’s feast.  Ah, well.  Happy to be a part of providing a nurturing environment.

Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Father, I’m thinking about Mrs. Betty this morning.  Be with her later today when her daughter lets her know another good friend has died.  Amen.
