June 8 - “Art Good”

We had a relatively early start to the day. We went up into Texas to the funeral of Christina’s Dad, Art. We got to know him a little over the years Christina and Kel have been together. He always came across as a caring, good guy. He seemed to do his best to show up for his grandkids. In fact, the last time we saw him was at Jachin’s college graduation. Oh, and Art was an amazing cook. We were invited to one of his shrimpfeasts (not fest) one time. Excellent. And he worked with a barbecue team to enter cook offs and provide scrumptious food at the rodeo. He stayed active through walking his favorite trail through Houston’s Memorial Park, and he rode his bike all the way from Houston to Austin. Impressive. Oh, and he could always be counted on to have done of the best photos.

Kel was in charge of the service, and certainly did a great job. And both of Art’s daughters did a good job sharing as well. But as far as I was concerned, Noa stole the show. She had written what could very well have passed as a powerful sermon on any Sunday morning. The fact she was able to share it in this particular atmosphere gave it even more power. Nice job, Noa. We’re proud of you.

After the service, everyone was invited to stick around for a barbecue meal in Art’s honor. Rudy’s did the catering, so you know it was good. Not “Art Good,” but good nonetheless.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭16‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ says, Be alert, stand firm in the faith, act like a man, be strong. Your every action must be done with love.

Father, please be with Christina and Jeni and Mike as well as Art’s dad and sister and brother. Bring them comfort and peace. Amen.
